Christ Died For Sinners by Steve Evans

Full Transcript:
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” - Romans 5:8-9

Oh, what a comfort and assurance for the children of God, knowing they are His chosen people, the objects of His eternal love and the recipients of His grace. And the children of God know, that as His elect, Christ died in their place, satisfying the wrath and justice of God that was meant for them.

What does it mean, “while we were sinners?” The Bible tells us in Romans 8:6-8 that we are by nature hostile to God and hate everything about God. Our minds are consumed with satisfying our own fleshly lust, which in the end, leads only to death. Elsewhere, in Ephesians 2:3 we see that we were “by nature children of wrath, just like the others,” or like the rest of the world.

We came into this world already condemned under the law and deserving of eternal punishment and death. Psalms 58:3 says, “The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.”

There is nothing anyone can do to earn God’s favor. In fact, there is nothing good in us at all. Psalms 14:3b says, “there is none who does good, not even one.” This is repeated in the book of Romans chapter 3, verse 12.

When we read Romans 3, we see just how wicked we are before the holy, righteous and just God. One day, on Judgment Day, you will stand before God, ready to be judged, either with the righteousness of Christ transferred to you and being told to enter into Heaven and eternal life; or with the guilt of all your sin that was never paid for at the cross, and you will be cast out into Hell and eternal, conscious torment.

We desperately need the Savior, Jesus Christ. He is our only hope for salvation and eternal life, which is found only in His death, burial and resurrection. God the Father sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in the place of sinners like you and me, and to satisfy His wrath and justice.

1 Timothy 1:15 says, “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”

So I call on you now. If you find yourself without Christ, a sinner, lost and dying and in every way guilty and deserving of death, then run to Christ. Run to His cross. Run to the mercy seat of God. Look to Him and cry out to Him for His mercy and His forgiveness and His salvation and be freed from the bondage of sin.

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Romans 10:13 May you find peace and everlasting life today in Jesus Christ the Lord by the drawing of the Holy Spirit.
